Wayne has been on the board a long time. He's the "senior" dinghy instructor for most of the time. When I first joined the board, I and others observed Wayne yelling "Whaaa Hooo!" during an unsafe maneuver by one of his students. Someone had to tell him that we should be promoting safe behavior and that this response should probably be avoided.

Honestly, I never saw the reason for Wayne being on the board. He's done a lot of great things for SEA, e.g., Intro classes, Camp Clipper, and maintenance to name a few, but none of these things required him to be on the board. He never took the initiative with any of the myriad and critical situations that came up at the board level over the years.

His first reaction tended to be posturing and aggressive behavior on the water, but if there's any controversy, he defers to others. At one point, in the midst of an intense discussion during a Board meeting about the future of the organization, he did nothing except make paper airplanes in silence. He tended to follow the others when a decision is needed.

During the 2007 season, he told me that he didn't like my leadership and I should resign "For the good of the organization," but was unable or unwilling to tell me what about my leadership he didn't like. (Yet he felt no hesitation calling me at 7am when someone who was understandably irate yelled at him on the phone after one of his students rammed a boat the day before.
