This is a page maintained for those regular readers and contributors to the newsgroup rec.boats.cruising who wish to have a profile of their basic information and web links posted so that other group members may put faces and boats with the posts and collect links to members web sites in one spot. Contributors are encouraged to use real names and information but no one will be excluded except obvious jokers or inappropriate content. If you wish to be included, please email me the information in similar format to my template entry at the bottom, although any information may be omitted. Posting Name: Cavelamb Himself

Real Name: Richard Lamb and Dorothy

Vessel Name and Type: "Spirit" 1986 Catalina Capri 18 - fin keel - not centerboard. (all the capri line are fin keels) And they pretty well sail rings around the Catalina 22 swing keels.

I bought her as a restoration project.

She was in pretty sad shape. Dismasted, rigging broken and kinked, rudder broken off, dirty as hell. Well, that covers the start of it. But the Hull and Deck were solid, and most all of the pieces were there.

In the process of restoring a small keel boat I discovered that I did NOT want to restore a BIG keel boat. I enjoyed the work, but... time, money, energy, weather, family, and natural disasters aside, it really IS a lot of hard work.

I decided I'd rather spend the money on a better ship to start with. There will still be plenty to fix, maintain, modify - even on a good boat.

And then (fate/kharma/kismet/Devine Providence?) stepped in. Still waiting for the lawyers to get the papers all written and filed.

Stay tuned for further developments!

Home Cruising Grounds:

Kanawha River ~ mile 32 - 61

Cruising Plans:

I suppose calling what I do "cruising" might not set well with some, but as far as plans go, I'd like to try a few overnight trips this summer, and maybe trailer the boat over to Cave Run Lake in Kentucky to see what it's like going in one direction for more than a few minutes. I have some friends who've taken weeks-long river trips on the Kanawha and Ohio, so I suppose something like that isn't totally out of the question, although if you ask my wife, it probably is.

Home Port: Newport, RI

Home Cruising Grounds: Supposidly the Newport area, but BlueJacket hasn't been there in 8 years. Basically, we move the boat somewhere new each year.

Cruising Plans: We've pretty much covered all of the Caribbean and the east coast of the US. After the US dollar regains some strength we'll head to Europe.

Our 2008 cruising will take us through the Hudson river and Erie canal to Lake Ontario. We'll then take the St. Lawrence river past Montreal and Quebec to the Canadian Maritimes. We'll visit Prince Edward Island and head to Newfoundland. Then we'll explore Nova Scotia, cross the Bay of Fundy and sail down the US east coast. For more details, please see my web site. In 2009, I think that we'll concentrate on Maine & Nova Scotia and then take the boat to FL where we'll head to the NW Caribbean to go diving.
